The shoots branch repeatedly and have a contrasting mahogany color except at the tips. The trees have little aroma. The bark of the Leyland Cypress is has a skin-like texture and is quite delicate. In its mature form, heights of 138′ are expected, and the tree is capable of withstanding temperatures of about 0 degrees Fahrenheit.

They are twisted and range from 1.5 to 3″ in length. They are relatively short when compared to those of other pines. The branches are stout and woody. The bark is typical for most pines. It forms plates that are reddish brown in color with shallow fissures or furrows. The bark has a coarse appearance.
